In June 2025, UN Mongolia embarked on a powerful mission: to amplify youth voices in the fight against desertification through the Youth4Land National Forum—an initiative that redefined youth engagement in climate resilience and land stewardship.
Held in the heart of Dundgovi, on the occasion of International Desertification and Drought Day, the forum brought together young herders, researchers, and land advocates from across the country. United by purpose, they shared innovative land restoration practices, exchanged experiences, and addressed the urgent challenges of protecting Mongolia’s vital pasturelands—the very backbone of its nomadic heritage.
With the unifying theme #Youth4Land, this gathering was more than a forum—it was a movement. Through every shared story, field demonstration, and community-led insight, the event sparked a growing recognition: that Mongolia’s youth are not just future leaders—they are today’s changemakers.

Challenge: Bridging the Distance, Uniting the Cause
Organizing a national forum in Dundgovi—one of Mongolia’s most arid and remote provinces—came with a unique set of challenges. With limited infrastructure and the long distance from Ulaanbaatar, mobilizing participants and creating nationwide engagement seemed daunting. Yet, the urgency of addressing desertification demanded bold action and inclusive dialogue, especially among youth deeply connected to the land.

Solution:
A Digital Push for On-the-Ground Impact
To overcome geographic barriers and spark nationwide interest, UN Mongolia partnered with Viral Marketing Agency launched a targeted social media campaign ahead of the forum. Through engaging content, youth-driven storytelling, and community partnerships, we created online momentum that translated into real-world participation. This digital-first approach helped spread awareness, inspire action, and gather a diverse group of herders, researchers, and land advocates in Dundgovi for a day of meaningful exchange and celebration.

Result:
Voices Amplified, Ideas Ignited
The Youth4Land Forum brought together over 100 passionate participants, each contributing to a dynamic dialogue on sustainable land restoration. From showcasing best practices in pasture management to awarding winners of the youth-led ideathon, the event sparked inspiration and unity. Powerful speeches from young herders highlighted grassroots solutions already making a difference—proving that youth are not just part of the conversation, but key drivers of environmental resilience.
Through Youth4Land National Forum, we demonstrated the power of collaboration, innovation, and youth leadership in tackling global challenges—starting from the land beneath our feet.
