United Airlines’ Historic Inaugural Flight to Mongolia Successfully Lands with PR Support from Viral Agency

On May 1, 2025, United Airlines made history by launching its inaugural direct flight from Tokyo Narita to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This marks the first time a U.S. based airline has operated a direct seasonal route connecting the United States and Mongolia.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft touched down at Chinggis Khaan International Airport at 21:12 local time, receiving a ceremonial water salute to commemorate the occasion.
United Airlines will operate this route three times a week, providing a faster and more convenient travel option between Mongolia and the United States via Tokyo. The total travel time is approximately 15 hours, making it the quickest and most direct connection available.
Scope of work
The PR activation focused on:
Organizing the official press conference at Chinggis Khaan International Airport
Preparing and providing press materials and briefing documents for United Airlines
Coordinating press access and managing all media relations
Overseeing on-site filming, photography, and interviews with guests and participants
The event attracted significant media attention and was covered by leading national news outlets. It was attended by local officials, aviation authorities, and representatives from the U.S. Embassy, further highlighting the diplomatic and economic importance of this new connection.

The project was successfully executed, with extensive media coverage published across numerous platforms including major national news outlets, aviation industry publications, and social media channels. This widespread visibility helped to strengthen United Airlines’ brand presence in Mongolia and promote the new Narita-Ulaanbaatar route to a broad audience.
