Project: Earth Hour 2026 “Mountains and Climate Change”
Date: 2026
Location: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
With the leadership and support of the Mongolia Programme Office of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour 2026 was successfully organized under the theme “Mountains and Climate Change.” In the lead-up to the event, a month-long social media campaign was also carried out, highlighting the impacts of climate change on Mongolia’s high mountain ecosystems. The campaign effectively raised public awareness and engagement by showcasing how these fragile environments are being affected by shifting climate conditions. Our company organized Earth Hour for the second time. In 2025, we carried out a campaign under the theme “Keep Our Water Clean as It Is” in celebration of World Water Day.

Challenge: Over the past four decades, the adverse impacts of climate change have led to significant environmental transformations across Mongolia. At the same time, perennial snow, glaciers, and permafrost are melting, resulting in the depletion of headwater sources for rivers and streams in the Altai and Khangai mountain ranges, as well as a decline in surface water resources. The loss of biodiversity, including both plant and animal species, has also intensified. These developments are beginning to undermine the country’s economic stability-particularly in the livestock and agricultural sectors-while negatively affecting livelihoods, food supply, and overall food security. These environmental shifts are, in turn, exerting profound impacts on ecosystems, threatening not only natural systems that have adapted over thousands of years, but also the socio-economic structures that depend on them. Therefore, there is a growing need and challenge for us to raise awareness among a wide audience about climate change in order to ensure long-term safety and security
Solution: This issue has long-term implications for our drinking water, environment, and food security. Therefore, we aimed to ensure that it would not be confined to a limited segment, but instead be understood by as many people as possible. Through the campaign, we made a conscious effort not to overlook children and youth-our future generations-as well as young families and urban residents. To reach a broad audience, we created art posters and used them as a medium to communicate key facts and raise awareness about the pressing challenges we face. In addition, content such as online podcasts and an animation about the snow leopard introduced fresh and engaging approaches, allowing us to connect with people across different age groups. At the same time, one of our main activity was organizing event “Earth Hour 2026”.
We implemented innovative formats-including documentary photography exhibitions, educational games addressing environmental issues, and interactive activities designed to engage and inspire young people. These efforts enabled us to deliver important messages in a more accessible and engaging way to a wider audience.
Result: We were able to effectively communicate our core messages to a wide audience: the vital role of the snow leopard in maintaining the balance of high-mountain ecosystems, the potential risks we may face if the snow and glaciers of these regions continue to melt rapidly, and the importance of staying connected to nature in order to understand and protect it. In terms of more detailed data, our social media content reached approximately 400,000 people, while over 300 participants attended the event in person at Zaisan Hill. As part of Earth Hour 2026, a total of 15 photo and video pieces were produced. We also collaborated with media outlets such as Ikon.mn and Urug.mn. Overall, the campaign successfully achieved its goal of raising awareness and effectively reached its target audience.
